Wisdom Family Foundation Supports U-46 Project Access Program

"This extremely generous donation from the Wisdom Family Foundation will make a tremendous difference in the lives of U-46's homeless students. It will allow them to have the same opportunities as every other student, and will help to give them every opportunity to succeed," says Maggie Dempsey, Project Access Coordinator/ School District U-46 Homeless Liaison.
The Wisdom Family Foundation (http://www. wisdomadhesives. com/history/wisdomFoundation. htm), established in 2008 to support children and families in the greater Elgin area, will provide financial support to Project Access. Project Access ensures that all homeless children and youth in the district have equal access to equal education and services. Project Access offers vital services that encourage homeless children to stay in school by: making all before and after school programs accessible to each child, providing tutoring, providing school supplies, coordinating efforts with community agencies to provide basic needs for families and students, acting as advocates for children and families, and creating awareness of and encouraging sensitivity to the issues that the families/students confront daily.

In addition to our $10,000.00 contribution, we have also set up a $1,500.00 and $1,000.00 scholarship for Project Access students. School District U-46 ranks second largest in Illinois, serving over 41,000 children whose backgrounds represent over 60 cultures. During the 2008-2009 school year, Project Access assisted over 600 students and this coming school year they plan on reaching even more students.
