Pfizer Partners with Nation’s Largest Minority Student Health Organization
Reception to be held during the nation’s largest annual gathering of minority medical students.

Atlanta, GA April 9, 2006 -- As part of the activities scheduled by the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) during their 41st Annual Medical Education Conference entitled, “Changing Our State-of-Mind: Empowerment through Business, Education, Literacy, Prevention, and P. R.I. D.E.” at the downtown Hilton Atlanta Hotel, April 13 -16. (For more information, visit www. snma. org). Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiatives, a division of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals will host a “Pfizer Minority Scholars” Private Reception on Friday April 15, 2006 from 7:30pm - 9:30pm at Nikolai's Roof at the Hilton Atlanta. This event, which is sponsored by Pfizer, is part of the recently established partnership between Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, and the Student National Medical Association to provide backing for the SNMA’s “David E. Satcher Research Fellowship”.
As part of the former US Surgeon General’s “Healthy People 2010” initiative, the SNMA/David E. Satcher, M. D. Research Fellowship aims to provide medical student members of the Student National Medical Association, opportunities to explore racial and ethnic health disparities in a research environment. The SNMA/David E. Satcher, M. D. Research Fellowship will provide up to five $5000 fellowship awards for research focusing on obesity prevention and obesity intervention. The event will begin with a reception followed by a short program that includes Pfizer Minority Medical School Scholars, American Medical Association Minority Scholars, Pfizer colleagues, and local Atlanta medical leaders including former US Surgeon General Dr. David E. Satcher.
