"The Importance of One" - First Annual Epilepsy Gala/Fundraiser To Feature Fantasia Barrino

Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and the Epilepsy Coalition of NYS, Inc. will co-host their First Annual Epilepsy Gala/Fundraiser on Saturday, November 7, 2009, from 6 - 10pm, at the National Track and Field Armory located in New York City. Featured guest artist for the Gala is American Idol Winner and Grammy-nominated Fantasia Barrino. Honorees are Alan Faneca from the New York Jets, Chanda Gunn, Olympic Goalie, and Florence Griffith-Joyner. The purpose of the gala is to raise awareness through education, advance research, and support the collaboration of area centers to find a cure for epilepsy.

Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and the Epilepsy Coalition of NYS, Inc. will co-host their First Annual Epilepsy Gala/Fundraiser on Saturday, November 7, 2009, from 6 - 10pm, at the National Track and Field Armory located at 216 Fort Washington Avenue and (W. 168th St.). The purpose of the gala is to raise awareness through education, advance research, and support the collaboration of area centers to find a cure for epilepsy.

The Gala event will include food, entertainment, speakers, a silent auction, and honorees. Featured guest artist for the Gala is American Idol Winner and Grammy-nominated Fantasia Barrino, as well as the Young People's Chorus, and Jim Papoulis from the local area. Honorees are Alan Faneca from the New York Jets, Chanda Gunn, Olympic Goalie, and Florence Griffith-Joyner, Olympic Runner (honored posthumously). Al Joyner will accept the award on behalf of Florence Griffith-Joyner. Tickets/Donations are on sale starting at $75 now through the website at www. theimportanceofone-epilepsygala. com.

The Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center (CCEC) under the Department of Neurology at Columbia University in New York City is dedicated to the care of people with epilepsy.
