CCA Announces Winners of the CCA Pete Spackman Volunteer of the Year Award
Twelve community volunteers from across the country honored for their outreach to inmates

CCA (http://www. correctionscorp. com/), America's leader in partnership corrections, has named 12 community volunteers as recipients of the 2010 Pete Spackman Volunteer of the Year Award. The winners, selected from among dozens of nominees from CCA facilities across the country, are being recognized for their long-term volunteerism, success in recruiting other volunteers and assistance with inmate rehabilitation programs in areas such as reading, parenting, spiritual support and job readiness.
This year's recipients of the Pete Spackman Volunteer of the Year Award are:

“These devoted local volunteers perform a great service in contributing their time to the incarcerated,” said Dennis Bradby, CCA vice president, Inmate Programs. “Volunteers at CCA correctional facilities play an important supporting role in sobriety programs, faith-based efforts, literacy outreach and career preparation. They are a wonderful complement to the rehabilitation resources and services provided by CCA to inmates."
The Pete Spackman Volunteer of the Year Award was instituted in 2009 by CCA's Inmate Programs (http://www. ccarehabilitation. com/) department, with the inaugural honor bestowed to its namesake. Spackman serves as director of prison outreach programs for School of Christ International (http://www. socintl. org/), a faith-based organization headquartered in Beaumont, Texas, that provides Biblical study programs, correspondence courses and ministries worldwide. The prison ministry, organized and led by Spackman with support from a cadre of community volunteers across the nation, is active in more than 60 correctional facilities, including many of CCA's prisons, jails and detention centers.
"Pete Spackman is devoted to the men and women who are among the most easily forgotten in our society – the inmates in our nation's prisons and jails," said Bradby. "School of Christ International provides strong spiritual support and faith-based education to CCA inmates who seek such outlets to aid them in their rehabilitation. He has set the bar high for what volunteerism really means, and we are proud to have established this honor in his name."
CCA has partnered with School of Christ International since 2004. Inmates at CCA facilities who voluntarily participate in the prison ministry program receive 19 study booklets with quizzes, free of charge, from the organization. More than 2,300 inmates at CCA facilities have graduated from the School of Christ International program, with nearly 1,800 currently enrolled in the ministry's prison correspondence course.
CCA facilities where volunteers have been awarded the Pete Spackman Volunteer of the Year Award will host events in their honor during August and September. Each year, CCA correctional facilities nominate a facility volunteer for this annual recognition.
