FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BRYN MAWR, PA (PRWEB)-– September 22, 2003 – The American College recognized the 2003 LUTC award recipients on September 15th at a luncheon held in conjunction with the annual convention and career conference of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, (NAIFA). This year, three awards were presented to 41 individuals who provided outstanding support to the LUTC sales training program and who helped further the mission of the organization.

The first award presented at the luncheon was the Ernest E. Cragg Ambassador Award. This award, created in 1994, is presented annually to individuals who have lent the LUTC program unequaled support during a single year. The volunteers who received this award were recognized for the positive impact they had on their local LUTC programs or on their companiesÂ’ efforts to promote LUTC to their field forces.

The Ernest E. Cragg Ambassador Award was named in recognition of the many contributions made to LUTC by Mr. Cragg, a fourteen-year trustee and past chair of the LUTC Board of Trustees. Past nominees and recipients include LUTC chairs, moderators, association executives, agency managers and home office staff persons.

The LUTC Eagle was the next award presented. The LUTC Eagle Award was originally created in 1996. It recognizes LUTC chairs and associations nationwide for their tireless efforts in marketing and organizing first-rate LUTC programs during the year. Associations that qualify for the LUTC Eagle Award must have achieved a 10 percent or more increase in LUTC enrollment over the previous year.

Recipients of the LUTC Eagle award are not measured on enrollment increases alone. They are also measured on their management of the administrative and promotional effectiveness of the program, including the recruitment of course moderators, the lifeblood of the LUTC classroom experience.

The Edmund L. Zalinski Distinguished Service Award was the third and most prestigious award presented at the luncheon. This award is named for Edmund Zalinski, the very first managing director of LUTC and is presented annually to one individual who has rendered extensive service and made continuous contributions of time and effort to the LUTC program. This award recognizes an outstanding individual for the contributions he or she has made to LUTC over the course of an entire career. The recipient of this award must be successful in his or her area of business, whether itÂ’s home office or field, and must possess distinctive qualities recognized in both his or her company and community.

Barry S. Humphrey, LUTCF was the recipient of this year’s 2003 Edmund L. Zalinski Distinguished Service Award. His history with LUTC goes back more than two decades. In a recent interview, Humphrey looked back on his early involvement with LUTC. “My first LUTC class was a refreshing change from the courses we were taking at the time,” he said. “With LUTC, you could study with other agents and understand that they have the same concerns that you do.”

Humphrey made significant contributions to the LUTC program over the course of his career. He played a major role in revising five LUTC textbooks and moderators guides for LUTCÂ’s international markets. Humphrey has and continues to serve on the NAIFA-Boston Board of Directors and has assisted the LUTC program as the LUTC Association Chair for NAIFA-Boston.

For many years, Humphrey has also been Regional Director for Massachusetts and in the past year has added Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island to his Regional Director duties. He was instrumental in getting continuing education credits approved for The American CollegeÂ’s new LUTC Long-Term Care course by the Massachusetts Department of Insurance.

Recently, Humphrey brought Liberty MutualÂ’s Designation Incentive Bonus Program to the attention of the LUTC Association Marketing Team. He used this information to increase LUTC enrollments by Liberty agents. Humphrey has also promoted LUTC on a national level. In 1998, John Hancock approached him to be their STARS class instructor. He restructured and moderated the resulting Business Continuity and Foundations of Estate Planning courses as a series of live interactive television broadcasts. The courses were viewed nationwide by John Hancock agents/students. A complete list of all the 2003 LUTC award recipients is attached.

Joe Kelley, CLU, ChFC, Senior Consultant, Kroll, Inc., and member of the Board of Trustees of The American College served as master of ceremonies during the event. Dr. Larry Barton, President and Chief Executive Officer of The American College presented the awards to this yearÂ’s recipients.

Dr. Barton was also the featured speaker at this year’s event. In his keynote speech, “Reaching New Heights of Greatness,” Barton shared his enthusiasm for the LUTC program and his vision of growth for the LUTCF designation. He sees LUTC as an integral part of the College’s continuum of training and educational offerings and is committed to expanding and enhancing the curriculum through new courses that meet the changing needs of financial service professionals.

The American College celebrated its 75th anniversary last year as the nationÂ’s oldest and largest academically accredited educational institution devoted exclusively to financial services. Located on a 35-acre campus in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the College serves over 35,000 students predominantly on a distance education basis. The American College offers an array of specialized designation programs, a Master of Science degree in financial services and customized continuing education programs for those pursuing a career in financial services.
