Lewisburg, WV – The Greenbrier Valley Theatre received a grant of $50,000 in support of its Youth Education Program from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. The foundation focuses its philanthropy on West Virginia and the Southwestern Pennsylvania area, following the wishes of its founders to “help people to help themselves.”

The grant will support GVTÂ’s programs for local youth like Summer Drama Camp and after school Drama Club. These programs offer students hands on, professional theatre experience. The grant will also help send theatre youth to the Southeast Theatre Conference which will take place in Jacksonville, FL this spring.

“The grant is going to give children from this area the opportunity to experience real theatre,” says Jessica Viers, GVT’s Box Office Manager and Education Assistant. “The Youth Education Program builds confidence, teaches culture, and brings valuable experiences that will influence a lifetime.”

GVTÂ’s Youth Education Program is the only one of its kind in Southern West Virginia. The theatre works closely with Greenbrier East High School to ensure a quality theatre education to interested students. The program is available for children ages 5-17. For more information about the Youth Education Program or upcoming events, please call the Box Office at 304-645-3838.
