American Forces Invade Brits & Iroquois at Newtown 225th Anniversary Reenactment in Elmira, NY

On August 27, 28 & 29, 2004, the hills will once again come alive with the sound of musket fire and cannonade as the Chemung Valley Living History Center hosts the 225th Anniversary of the Battle of Newtown. The event will take place Friday & Saturday, Aug. 27 & 28 at the Newtown Battlefield Reservation and on Sunday, August 29, at the peaceful 'Daniels' farm in Lowman, NY; site of the original battle will come alive with American, British & Iroquois re-enactors for a truly stunning portrayal of this famous battle. 1000 professional and amateur re-enactors will bring this multi-million dollar anniversary production to the Southern Tier for just three days.

FRIDAY, August 27:

Family Education Day. Park open to the public - Parents, bring the kids to Newtown and explore 18th Century life as it was in 1779. Hands-on interpretive displays; cooking, military, tooling, clothing, wares, money... No cell phones, but plenty of ingenuity and common sense living! Professional and amateur historians, youth leaders, and volunteers from throughout the Northeast are coming to Elmira to host this exciting program. Admission $1 per person

Gates open at Newtown at 9:30 AM

Skirmishes:

10 AM Assault on the Crown Forces

2 PM Assault on the Six Nations (at the permanent 1779 Indian Village at Newtown)

4 PM Assault on Continental Camp

Monument rededication dedication 1 PM

Camps open to the public Trolley/bus rides to the camps & Iroquois Village

Book signing

Quill pen making & calligraphy demonstrations

SUNDAY, August 29

1 - 3 PM 225th Anniversary of the Battle of Newtown at the Daniels Farm, Lowman, NY

Gate opens at the Daniels farm at 10 AM and close at 12:30 PM for safety issues before the battle begins.

(No battle action at Newtown Battlefield Park)

Free onsite parking. Recommended to get to the Daniels/Jilson Farm at least 1 hour before the battle. Battle time 2 PM
