Prominent Community Leaders Alan Jaffe and Theodore Mirvis Join New York Legal Assistance Group Board of Directors

Alan S. Jaffe and Theodore N. Mirvis have been named to the Board of Directors of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), a not-for-profit law office providing free civil legal services to low income New Yorkers. Both Mr. Jaffe and Mr. Mirvis bring extensive experience in the legal and philanthropic sectors and a longstanding commitment to their community.

Alan S. Jaffe and Theodore N. Mirvis have been named to the Board of Directors of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), a not-for-profit law office providing free civil legal services to low income New Yorkers. Both Mr. Jaffe and Mr. Mirvis bring extensive experience in the legal and philanthropic sectors and a longstanding commitment to their community.

Alan S. Jaffe is Chairman of Proskauer Rose LLP, a 625 attorney law firm with offices in the United States and Europe. Prior to becoming Chairman in January 1999, Mr. Jaffe spent most of his professional time engaged in collective bargaining negotiations and in counseling clients on strategic labor law considerations, as well as advising clients on day to day labor and employment matters. From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Jaffe served as President of UJA-Federation of New York, the largest local philanthropy of its kind in the world, whose beneficiary agencies serve nearly four million persons annually in New York and Israel. He remains on the Board of that organization and serves in leadership capacities for the boards of numerous philanthropic organizations. Mr. Jaffe also serves as a Mayoral appointee to the Board of Directors of the MayorÂ’s Fund for New York City and has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the New York City Sports Development Corporation and the New York City Public/Private Initiatives, Inc. Mr. Jaffe is an honors graduate of Cornell University and Columbia Law School where he was an editor of the Columbia Law Review.

Theodore N. Mirvis is a Partner in the Litigation Department at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and a member of the firmÂ’s Management Committee. Mr. Mirvis has been with the firm for over 25 years, and during that time has litigated some of the landmark cases regarding corporate governance issues, mergers and acquisitions, stockholders rights, and numerous other matters involving corporate and securities litigation. He is an expert on corporate defense. He has written extensively on topics ranging from white-collar crime, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and stockholder derivative suits. Mr. Mirvis received a B. A., summa cum laude, from Yeshiva University in 1973 and received a J. D., magna cum laude, from the Harvard Law School in 1976. At the Law School, he served as Case Officer and as a member of the Editorial Board of the Harvard Law Review. Upon graduation, Mr. Mirvis was a law clerk to the Honorable Henry J. Friendly of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He is a member of the American Law Institute and of the Planning Committee of the Tulane Corporate Law Institute.

On the addition of Mr. Jaffe and Mr. Mirvis to the Board of Directors, NYLAG Executive Director Yisroel Schulman said, “We are thrilled that these two prominent leaders of the legal community have agreed to assist NYLAG in fulfilling its mission of providing free, comprehensive legal services to the disabled, victims of domestic violence, the elderly, and other at-risk populations”.
