Theresa (Terri) Malone, elected member of the Nevada State Board of Education, announces her candidacy for Nevada State Senate District 4 located in northwest Las Vegas and in North Las Vegas from Rancho del Norte to Interstate 15.

Malone said, “The constituency in Senate District 4 asked me to represent them in the Nevada Legislature to ensure their participation in the democratic process enumerating the characteristics needed for good government affecting their daily lives.” Malone will support legislation to diversify our economy, strong anti-crime laws and promote fiscal responsibility in Nevada.

Elected to the Nevada State Board of Education in 2000, Mrs. Malone will fulfill her term expiring December 2004. She is an advocate for education, and promoted the need for a second vocational high school—now in the planning stages of being built in the Town Center area in northwest Las Vegas. She strongly supports life-long learning which translates into higher lifetime earnings.

Malone chairs two Nevada State Board of Education committees: the Government Relations Committee, and the Committee on the SuperintendentÂ’s Evaluation/Workplan and Strategic Plan. As a representative of the State Board, Mrs. Malone is a member of the Nevada Homeschool Advisory Council and an exofficio member of the Nevada Public Education Foundation.

Recently, the Nevada LegislatureÂ’s Legislative Commission named her as an alternate member to the Nevada Commission on Minority Affairs. She is a member of the Nevada First Literary Advisory Council and the GovernorÂ’s Initiative to reduce the number of Nevada residents between the ages of 18 and 24 who do not possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Active in her community, she is a member of the Relief Society Organization and the advancement coordinator for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 465. Additionally, she is a merit badge counselor for three required merit badges.

Her service to the Las Vegas community includes: East Las Vegas Community Development Corporation advisory board; NevadaÂ’s Action for Healthy Kids; the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Advisory Boards for the Center for Urban Partnerships and the WomenÂ’s Research Institute of Nevada; Nevada Hispanic Democratic Caucus; Hispanics in Politics (HIP); League of Women Voters; Seniors United and, in her own neighborhood, she actively participates in the Northwest Area Residents Association (NARA). For seven years, she has been employed at the Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN) as a computer lab instructor. Malone also manages rental property which she owns with her husband.

Malone is a hardworking individual, who pays attention to the big picture and the smallest voice. She researches, gathers input from clients and takes the time to thoroughly understand the issues before voicing her opinions on a subject.

Theresa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Post Secondary Education from UNLV and is married to retired Nevada State Senator Mike Malone for over 20 years.
