Controversial author Claudette Milner will attend the Apple Valley Book Festival November 11-12 in Martinsburg W. Virginia. Milner will be signing copies of her book “Children of Plains Estates” from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Milner will also attend the Wizards of Words 2005 November 19, 20, 21 in Las Vegas. The event will include two days of book signings from 11:00 a. m. to 4 p. m. at the Hawaiian Marketplace located on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Milner recently expressed her views on the aftermath of hurricane Katrina by making this statement:

“The failure of the government to respond to the victims of Katrina in a timely manner was not a statement about race but a statement about poverty in America. If we fail to look at the big picture we fail to confront the problem of poverty in this country. There are many that are economically poor that have provided themselves with the tools i. e. education, and job skills to be able to break the cycle of poverty. However there are many that suffer from the state of what I have termed the mentality of poverty.

These individuals have given up on the dream of economic empowerment. They lack education, have no job skills and have resigned themselves to a state of governmental slavery. They have limited their options and their choices are made for them. The government decides their monthly income, housing accommodations, and food allotment. For the most part they do not vote therefore they are of no use to elected officials. They pose no threat to those that ignore their needs on a daily basis when deciding current legislation for their district. Until we confront the root causes of poverty we will not break this cycle and will repeat the response of Katrina for years to come”.

Milner will be available for interviews Nov. 9 – Nov. 26.
