Emerald Mountains Publishing, a new start up company, has released a new learning tool for children, four interactive children's books on a CD.

Emerald Mountains Publishing has released a new learning tool for children. Tales from the Emerald Mountains is an interactive CD with four picture stories on it. The stories are written into a program format that allows the child to hear a word pronounced with a mouse click. The child can hear the whole page read by clicking on the READ button.
Emerald Mountains Publishing LLC, a new start up company, produced Tales from the Emerald Mountains for the purpose of allowing young children to utilize the most powerful learning tool available to most households, the personal computer, for the purpose of education and fun.
John D. Mc Cracken, the author of the stories, says that in creating the world of the Emerald Mountains, he wanted an imaginary place where children could find humor and safety. He did this by creating Glock Coe, a small village in the Emerald Mountains. It is a place where little adults make mistakes in dealing with each other and then have to find solutions to their problems without resorting to violence or threatening behavior.
These little people, cousins to the leprechauns, like all children and adults, suffer lapses into thoughtlessness and self-centeredness, which can anger the people around them. The stories offer lessons in peaceful conflict resolution.
The stories have been merged into a program that allows children to practice reading. If they get stuck on a word, all they have to do is click on the word with the mouse pointer and it will pronounce itself. If a child would rather hear the story read, all he or she has to do is click on the read button and the page will read itself.
Because the child is being entrusted with the family computer, adult supervision is recommended.
Several educators who evaluated the CD said it would be an excellent learning tool for children with reading disabilities. All of them rated the stories as good to excellent.
Emerald Mountains Publishing is a new startup company with one product at the moment, Tales from the Emerald Mountains. However, there are plans to expand the product line into other picture books on CD based on the same format as Tales from the Emerald Mountains. It also expects to expand into childrenÂ’s chapter adventure books within the next eighteen months to two years.
