Through the expertise of small ensembles, Midori & Friends offers music programs in for children in grades K-12, introducing them to diverse genres including Classical, Western, Jazz and World Music.
The First Annual Midori & Friends Children’s Music Festival is a free, fun-filled event which provides children in partner schools throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx an opportunity to take part in musical, dramatic, and visual arts workshops culminating in a 3:00-5:00pm performance at Symphony Space in Manhattan.
Julius Adams, music specialist, P. S. 98 says the excitement level at his
School is high. “For the vast majority of students, who don’t get to perform at a special event, the festival provides students with the opportunity to see what it takes to have a career in music, what it means to bring the joy of music to someone else and receive accolades. This is an experience they’ll never forget.”
In addition to the student performances, the festival will feature performances by musical storyteller David Gonzalez who will tell a tale about his first guitar, along with professional music groups, including a dynamic performance involving the entire audience with hundreds of African drums.
Fern Nash, music teacher at P. S. 139 is excited about the opportunity for her students to share the stage with other children at Symphony Space. “Anytime you can go out of your environment and meet other people who are musical – wow! Performing on the stage at Symphony Space gives the students a way to showcase and share their talents with other children. We are giving them something memorable. ”
The Midori & Friends First Annual Children’s Music Festival is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
