Eriksen Translations Awarded Three-Year Contract with New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation

Eriksen Translations is pleased to announce that the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) has awarded the company a three-year contract to provide translation services to its entire network of hospitals and health care centers. Given rising concerns throughout the United States about non-English speaking patientsÂ’ ability to communicate with health care providers, this contract represents a major commitment to break down language barriers and improve access to vital health services.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) September 22, 2005

Eriksen Translations has been awarded a contract to provide translation services to all New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation's (HHC) hospitals and health care facilities throughout New York City. As the largest municipal health care system in the United States, HHC regularly offers health care related print materials to its customers in up to 13 languages. Eriksen has provided services to many HHC facilities in Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Haitian-Creole, Hindi, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Urdu, and Yiddish since 1998, but this new three-year agreement makes it possible for all HHC members to call on Eriksen at any time.

In the communities that HHC serves, census data has shown that almost one half of the population may speak a primary language that is not English. In keeping with a 2000 Executive Order, Improving Access to Services for People with Limited English Proficiency, HHC is committed to improving access to health care services by reducing communication barriers resulting from language differences. Eriksen provides the link by translating vital documents such as patient education materials, legal and administrative documents, multilingual brochures, and signage, among others.

"Eriksen's extensive experience in the health care field makes it possible for all of HHC's patients and consumers to make educated decisions about their health care," said Vigdis Eriksen, President and CEO of Eriksen Translations. "And our nearly 20 year history of offering both translation and interpreting services within the many communities of New York City makes us perfectly suited to assist every branch of the HHC network," she added.
