Denver (PRWEB) April 7, 2009

Westwood College (www. westwood. edu]) announced today the winners of its 2009 President's Award and National Faculty of the Year Award. The awards recognize outstanding Westwood College faculty members and other educators for their dedication to excellence.

Betsey Stadelmann, a faculty member in the general education program at Westwood's Houston South campus, is the recipient of the prestigious President's Award, which recognizes the faculty member who stands out through his or her contribution in teaching, community service and recruitment. Stadelmann's "students-first" teaching style encompasses all types of learners whether visual, auditory or kinesthetic. Her efforts help students realize that Westwood is truly a place where they can succeed. She shares these talents with students in classes ranging from government to career development. In addition to her teaching role, Stadelmann's commitment to her community includes assisting victims of Hurricane Ike in Galveston, where she spent three consecutive weeks helping those in need.

"Betsey's hands-on approach to teaching exemplifies what Westwood is all about," said Dean Gouin, president of Westwood College. "Whether she is working with our student service department to ensure struggling students are able to continue their education or as an ambassador with many local community organizations, we are honored that Betsey calls Westwood College home."

Mohamad Khatilbloo, a faculty member for the School of Justice at the Los Angeles Wilshire campus, is the recipient of the 2009 National Faculty of the Year Award. This annual award recognizes instructors who encourage cooperation and communication among students and who assist students in and out of the classroom. It also honors teaching styles that focus on launching students' careers. Khatilbloo regularly enriches students' learning experience by bringing world-class guest lecturers to campus from the "real criminal justice world" including speakers from FBI counter-terrorism teams, the deputy chief of police and former U. S. justice appointees.

His work to ensure that students receive a quality educational experience does not end at the classroom door. He is also instrumental in helping to secure valuable scholarship funding for Westwood students.

"Mohamad's student-centered teaching style results in consistently high ratings from students on the Faculty Course Evaluations," remarked Gouin. "We appreciate the value he brings not only to students, but to the campus, the entire institution and the community."
