Medical Training School, Pima Medical Institute, Moves Albuquerque Campus to New Location - The new facility features state-of-the-art classrooms, more space for students.

Albuquerque, NM (Vocus) June 11, 2010

Medical training school (http://pmi. edu/locations/albuquerque. asp), Pima Medical Institute, one of the premier health care career training schools in the western United States, officially moved in to their new campus location last week. The new facility features increased classroom and study space as well as state-of-the-art medical equipment, similar to what students will use daily at hospitals, physicians’ offices and clinics when they graduate.

Conveniently located at the Pavilions at San Mateo in the 44,000 square foot building that used to house Circuit City, Pima Medical Institute’s new medical training school campus has been transformed from a retail site into a space designed to foster learning. The school, which first began training Albuquerque residents nearly 25 years ago, prepares students for a variety of careers in the health care field, such as nursing, respiratory therapy, medical assistant, pharmacy technician and veterinary assistant, among others.

“Pima Medical Institute’s location will provide students with the classroom space and high-tech equipment they need to learn and become successful health care professionals,” said Albuquerque campus director Holly Woelber. “This larger campus allows Pima to address the community’s need for a school that trains students to fill the jobs that New Mexico’s economy requires.”

A recent report by the National Skills Coalition concluded that the largest share of future job openings in New Mexico will be in middle skills jobs – those jobs defined as requiring more than a high school diploma, but not a four-year degree. Examples include nursing and various health care technicians, jobs for which the medical training school specifically trains its students.

“Our success is determined by the satisfaction of our students and the fact they are working in jobs that allow them to utilize the skills they gained at Pima,” said Mark Luebke, president of Pima Medical Institute. “Since 1985, Pima’s Albuquerque campus has helped nearly 8,000 students graduate and positively impact Albuquerque in the health care field. With the opening of this new facility, Pima continues our mission of training the next generation of health care professionals and providing skilled workers that can fill the middle skills job shortage in the state.”
