DETROIT (PRWEB) January 25, 2007
Ah, bedtime. The epic nocturnal battle every parent inevitably faces when their children just won't go to sleep. If only there was a program that helps send young ones off to dreamland...
Rest assured, moms and dads. Just such a program does exist and can soon be added to your children's home video library when the award-winning "My Bedbugs Volume 1" comes to DVD from Greenestuff, Inc., Feb. 13 for a suggested retail price of $14.99. This debut title in the launch, which received the iParenting Media Award, features three fun episodes culled from the multi-award-winning My Bedbugs TV show, which is broadcast on Commercial and Public Broadcasting stations in throughout the U. S and Canada. "My Bedbugs Volume 2" DVD will be released in April with two more volumes to appear before the end of the year.
A companion "Bedbugs Party" CD will also be released Feb. 13 and includes 30 original songs, five of which are featured in "My Bedbugs Volume 1" DVD.
Created by Alex Greene and Carol Sweeney - two exhausted parents who were having trouble getting their own three children to bed - My Bedbugs introduces a family of loveable characters - siblings Woozy, Toofy and Gooby - who sing, dance, laugh, play and lead viewers on magical adventures, all without ever leaving their bedroom. Each episode uses music and stories to teach positive behaviors, good habits and everyday life lessons. Topics like sharing, good eating habits and manners are presented in bright colorful settings, with simple, easy-to understand storylines perfect for young eyes and ears.
The trio is guided by their mentor J. Edgar, a vacuum cleaner who teaches them manners, etiquette and discipline as well as how to think for themselves and solve problems, all through the use of music and imagination. With their cuddly pillow Snoozy also by their side, each story is filled with fun, laughter and gentle life lessons.
"What makes this group of cuddly characters different from most other children's ensembles is simple," says Greene, founder and CEO of Detroit-based Greenestuff Inc., and co-creator and executive producer of My Bedbugs. "Our characters, being live-action, are more real to children. In a market over-saturated with computer animation, we connect with kids on a more magical level."
"Lost Sock Adventure" leads off "My Bedbugs Volume 1" DVD as Gooby, Toofy and Woozy find fun in cleaning, and then discover more than just a messy room in their endeavor to unite two lost bobby socks. The song "Before You Go to Bed" addresses bedtime routines like brushing teeth, putting on pajamas and using the to potty before lights out.
Fun lurks around every turn as the Bedbugs embark on a treasure hunt in "Pirates of the Bugabean," along the way learning to turn sibling rivalry into sibling camaraderie and solving problems using their imaginations and know-how. In "Rainy Day," it may be raining outside but the fun is just getting started when the trio discovers great games to play when stuck inside. They may just gain a little weather know-how, too.
Special features on the DVD include onscreen karaoke of original songs, individual episode selection, footage from the My Bedbugs Live Stage Show, and character slide show.
In all, a total of 18 My Bedbugs DVDs are planned for release over the next few years.
Greene and his wife, Carol Sweeney, each have over 25 years of experience in the music and television industries. Greene has been involved in several areas of the entertainment industry, ranging from producing music and records to being a talent showcase coordinator and consultant for both national and international recording artists. Sweeney, who oversees all casting, music and art direction, set design, voice-over and final production for the My Bedbugs series, has an extensive background in business management, 3D graphics, project development and cover layout specifications.
Together, they created and have nurtured the My Bedbugs program and taken it to outstanding levels of success. As episodes first began to air on Detroit Public Television, they garnered the attention of PBS affiliates in additional markets. Earlier this year the show was honored with 8 Telly awards and in June of this year "My Bedbugs" received an unprecedented 19 nominations and 9 wins at the 28th annual Michigan Emmy Awards.
In 2005 My Bedbugs received four Emmy awards for Outstanding Children's Program, Videography, Audio and Set Design. My Bedbugs was honored by the Telly Awards for excellence in Directing, Music, Editing and Art Direction. The series also received the National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval for 2005 and 2006. In all, the series has won an astonishing 25 awards!
"I am most impressed with the way 'My Bedbugs' educates what we call The Whole Child," said Daniel Alpert, Chief Operating Officer and Station Manager of Detroit Public TV. "Through its different episodes, it addresses developmental concerns, cognitive skills and most of all it presents everyday situations and experiences for children to role model. 'My Bedbugs' is good television with a heart."
Lessons chosen to become part of the My Bedbugs series go through a rigorous screening process to become the most beneficial programming for young viewers. A selected group of educators ensure that all content is appropriate for the age group, and the writers make certain that the entertainment elements - music, visual draw, creative play and comedy - adhere to educational elements. Subjects include science, math, reading, writing and history, and the characters demonstrate how working together strengthens understanding and improves social skills.
