TecAccess, a world leader in Information Technology (IT) Accessibility and Section 508 Solutions, is honored to be selected as a presenter at the Interagency Disability Educational Awareness Showcase (IDEAS), which will be held November 5th and 6th, 2003, at the New Washington Convention Center. Debra Ruh, President and Founder of TecAccess, will present a workshop entitled “Section 508: The Marriage Between Testing and Compliance” on November 5th.

The presentation will focus on testing products and services for Accessibility and “Technical” Section 508 Compliance. The comprehensive session will update attendees on IT Accessibility legislation, explain state-of-the-art diagnostic and testing validation techniques, and show how government agencies and organizations have successfully implemented these techniques. IDEAS attendees will also examine case studies and best practices based on IT Accessibility and Section 508 Compliance for websites, e-learning, software, and hardware. They will further witness a demonstration of how assistive technology (AT) should be utilized for Section 508 Compliance testing and learn all the components of the accessibility testing process. In addition, Ms. Ruh will offer examples of the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT).

Section 508 is the amendment to the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which was signed into law by President Clinton in 1998. It requires all federal departments, agencies, contractors, and federally funded companies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. The law covers their development, maintenance, procurement, and use of these technologies.

Beginning in 1987, The Interagency Disability Educational Showcase (IDEAS) has been a cornerstone event with the Federal government regarding free IT, accessibility laws and regulations, and current accessibility issues. IDEAS will showcase innovative technology and government best practices. Best practices labs will be hosted by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, the U. S. Department of Defense, the U. S. Department of Education, and the Internal Revenue Service, just to name a few. IDEAS will also hold conferences on “Building an EA Which Includes Assistive Technologies,” “Educating the Workforce,” and “Determining Standards.” An additional conference theater will feature New Access Technologies by Government Computer News.
