Cold Stone Creamery ice cream parlor located in the Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg, IL, outside Chicago, has introduced a new flavor to honor recent charity work by international best selling recording artist Rikki Lee Travolta.
Airen DeCarli, manager of the Cold Stone store, was inspired to create the new flavor after seeing Travolta guest star in the musical "Grease" to raise money to fund performing arts educational programs for underprivileged youths.
DeCarli arranged a meeting with Travolta after the charity performance and received the singer's consent to create the flavor. She also solicited his suggestions for ingredients that Cold Stone subsequently incorporated into the recipe.
"Rikki Lee Travolta Creation" consists of chocolate chip cookie dough suspended in coffee ice cream interlaced with a ribbon of premium peanut butter.
Ben & Jerry's brand ice cream markets celebrity-inspired flavors "Cherry Garcia" to honor the late Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead and "Phish Food" in tribute to the alternative rock band Phish.
Travolta recently visited the Schaumburg store and sampled the flavor, giving it his official endorsement.
By making the charity appearance on February 28th, the former star of "Tony n' Tina's Wedding" became the first Travolta to star in the leading role in "Grease" since John Travolta's appearance in the 1978 film adaptation. Village of Round Lake mayor Bill Gentes named the date "Rikki Lee Travolta Day" to mark the occasion.
Travolta is the highest grossing international artist in the history of Brahma Bull Audio. His duet "Dangerous Game" with Jessica Lauren Fisher was the 67 top songs of the year on the ballot for the 2002 Grammy Award nominations in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category.
Cold Stone and DeCarli were profiled by ABC affiliate WLS-TV on the trend-metering program 190 North. DeCarli, 20, is the youngest manager in the company's history.
Founded in 1988 by Donald and Susan Sutherland, Cold Stone Creamery has 311 stores in operation nationwide, with over 600 additional franchises set to open.
