John Williams and the Boston Pops to perform at May 30 concert to benefit organ donation awareness and transplant research

Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 1, 2009

Desperate Housewives star James Denton will join country music singing sensation Phil Vassar and award-winning composer John Williams and the Boston Pops this month for "Share the Beat," an evening of inspirational music and storytelling to benefit organ donation awareness and transplant research.

Denton will host the star-studded benefit, to be held Saturday, May 30 at 8 p. m. at Boston's Symphony Hall. "No one wants to think about donating your organs, but it can save a lot of lives," Denton said. "(Share the Beat) makes people aware of how simple it is to be an organ donor."

Now in its sixth year, "Share the Beat" was created by filmmaker James Redford -- the son of Academy Award-winning actor/director Robert Redford -- after years of suffering from ulcerative colitis required him to have a liver transplant.

"Donating an organ truly is giving someone the gift of life," Redford said. "'Share the Beat' celebrates the remarkable generosity of organ donor families, while raising awareness of the more than 100,000 Americans who are currently on the national waiting list for a transplant."

Previous "Share the Beat" celebrations have been held in Atlanta; Omaha, Neb.; Sundance and Provo, Utah; and Los Angeles; and have attracted such well-known supporters as Tim McGraw, Mariska Hargitay, Katherine Heigl and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. This year's Boston event will benefit the American Society of Transplantation (AST) and the Redford AnimAction Project, an educational outreach program for youth.
