On Saturday, November 8, 2003, from 10:30 am to Noon, Purpose Media Management’s owner and chief publicist, Nia Michelle, will be presenting and moderating a workshop entitled “What Glass Ceiling? Building Your Own Publicity Boutique.” This workshop is part of the second annual International Women Artist’s Conference - “Uniting and Thriving,” taking place on November 7-9 at Barnard College in New York City and organized by W. E.R. I.S. E. (Women Empowered through Revolutionary Ideas Supporting Enterprise.)

The What Glass Ceiling? Workshop aims to create a comfortable atmosphere during which women will examine the difficulties of realizing success in the highly competitive Public Relations field, through straightforward and open discussion of personal experiences and ideas. The workshop will also address the pros and cons of female enterprise, particularly in the male-dominated entertainment industry. “I am truly looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned both from working in a corporate setting and running my own company,” says Nia Michelle. “I am also excited to see how much I can learn through this discussion with my contemporaries.”

At just 24 years of age, Nia Michelle is already an established media professional. In addition to having studied under some of the greatest names in the field, she has worked with several corporate powerhouses in advertising, broadcasting, entertainment and journalism. In 1999 Nia Michelle was one of ten students nationwide chosen to intern at CBS New York, and receive the UNCF academic scholarship. During the summer of 2000 Nia became the youngest and only intern at R&J Integrated Marketing published in the Wall Street Journal. Nia was also the first student employee at South Carolina State University to be published in the nationally published Black Issues in Higher Education. Over the past 6 years, professional travel gave Nia the opportunity to navigate Africa, Europe & Belize.

Upon graduating Cum Laude from Claflin University in 2001 Nia returned to New York City where she founded Purpose Media Management, a boutique public relations firm serving the literary, visual and performing arts industries. In 2002, Nia Michelle decided to accentuate her career by garnering her MBA in Media Management.
