Everyone has a child within; whether it be a laughter that is released at any chance, a playfulness that is free, or maybe an imagination of storybooks. Each person expresses it through their own unique way. Now LA Artist Bonnie Harris is helping some find joy in Toy Portraits…yes, Toy Portraits!
Bonnie's work first started with the creation and paintings of "Ed the Chicken". As told by Harris, "Ed is truly a dynamic and giving chicken soul." HE is a chicken. He is not a rooster. Therefore, he is different than all other poultry. He's had it tough, being so different, but then again, he is completely himself -- sparkles and all. In her paintings of Ed, Bonnie places him in different environments and surroundings, designs, colors and situations; showing how diverse he is and relating to so many different people.
Bonnie continued with her work creating portraits of people's toys. Filled with personality and sparkle these toy portraits have caught the attention of many. Most may think that these toy portraits sound like a child's desire but they are commissioned by adults, including celebrities, to inspire the child within. "Toys remind us to take a second and play and visit the lighter side of life," Harris states. "They all have little quirks and their own personalities." Clients are amazed at how proud the toys look when they stand next to their portraits.
Harris will be showcasing her work at Art Share Los Angeles on August 9 at their Downtown location. Art Share LA is a community arts incubator whose mission is to shape lives through art, education, and community action and has been servicing the community for the last ten years. They bring opportunities to the inner-city and continue to promote cultural excellence to under-served communities in Los Angeles.
