Second Annual Hood® Good Sport® Scholarships

Second Annual Hood® Good Sport® Scholarships

18 High School Seniors to be Awarded $5,000 to Offset Rising Tuition Costs

Lynnfield, MA (PRWEB) January 18, 2011

HP Hood, New England’s leading dairy processor, will award 18 $5,000 Hood® Good Sport®* Scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the field. In the second year of the program, Hood will award three high school seniors in each of the six New England states - Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont - with a $5,000 scholarship for a total of $90,000.

Tuition costs continue to rise faster than average incomes**, which have forced more students to seek alternate ways to pay for their education. In 2010, more than 5,000 applications were received and the interest for 2011 has been tremendous as scholarships become critical elements to financing a student’s secondary education.

“We are pleased to be able to once again offer the Hood® Good Sport® Scholarship to deserving seniors in New England,” said Lynne Bohan, spokesperson for Hood. “We were overwhelmed by the response last year and the quality of the submissions. We look forward to celebrating even more students who serve as role models in their classrooms, communities and on their respective sports teams.”

The Hood Good Sport Scholarship program is open to seniors enrolled in a high school in one of the six New England states. Seniors must be attending a two - or four-year accredited college or university in the fall of 2011 and meet the following criteria:
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA Participated in a varsity sport in high school Volunteered in his/her community Displayed a high degree of sportsmanship while participating in sports in high school

Entry forms will be accepted online at Hood. com now through February 25th. Students will be asked to complete the entry form and write a short essay explaining why they are a “Good Sport” on and off the field. Voting will be open to the public beginning on March 7th and running through April 15th on Hood. com to determine the 10 finalists from each state who will be interviewed by a panel of judges. The final 18 winners – 3 from each state – will be notified in May and be invited to attend an awards banquet at Fenway Park.
