Author Presents Manual on Reducing School and Community Crime
‘Handbook on Leadership and Conflict Resolution in Africa’ to be featured at the 2010 New York Library Association Book Exhibit

Based on the latest incidents in Nigeria and Africa, author Monday Kogbara believes that reducing school crime is clearly one of the most urgent national social problems. In his newly released book made available through Xlibris, Handbook on Leadership and Conflict Resolution in Africa, he takes a different approach—other than the new rules implemented in schools—to lessen, if not totally, eradicate school crime.
Entirely a team-based project from thousands of leaders and youth who provided insights, this manual will help leaders, mentors, and students do something essential to end school and community crime; it will help them learn to think about themselves as part of the school culture and take responsibility for creating that culture—a culture of connection.
“I hope that committed community and local government leaders see the manual for crime prevention in this document as a tool to help them meet this most formidable challenge,” the author states. “Many chapters in this book highlight how communities and local governments may address crime and the conditions that lead to crime. Each chapter includes five to ten logics in magic topical areas.”
The book includes a series of training and teaching exercises that may enable students and the youth to see their world, understand it, and influence it when necessary; it begins with the logical thinking as a team player, with a move to communication and negotiation skills. Straight talkers and peacekeepers can be concluded, with both adult and peer mentoring programs on life skills. Many of the readings, actions, and discussions in this book provide a personal insight about the way the youth view the world and how they can learn from those insights to change their world.

About the Author
Monday Naafo Kogbara is a certified counselor under Light University Virginia and a basic student of Trinity College and Seminary in Indiana, pursuing his bachelor on leadership and conflict management, and is one of the assistants to the late leader of the Ogoni people, Ken Saro-Wiwa. He is the only surviving migrant from Bodo City in Rivers State in Nigeria to St. Louis City in the United States. He has a vision that each and every school will provide a safe and welcoming environment for children. It is in this context that he has written this book.
