Kid’s TV Show About Health and the Environment Enters the Pepsi Refresh Project

Imagine if the best minds in entertainment, technology, social media, gaming, advertising and curricula development collaborated to create televised programming and online communities that changed the way kids think about nutrition, fitness and the environment. There has been a lot of great education developed that enhances knowledge, but the current format has not completely resonated with all children, especially kids in low income areas or those belonging to minority groups. My proposed innovative approach to health education delivery will change perceptions, attitudes and behavior by using media that speaks the language of today’s youth.

The Healthologist TV show will address the childhood obesity epidemic by providing kids and their families with a medium to learn about proper nutrition, fitness and sustainability in an entertaining way. This show will empower youth by teaching them how to determine their biological needs, utilize healthy cooking techniques, develop a proper exercise regiment and support the ecosystem. The TV program and online community will not only increase kids’ knowledge about health related topics, but it will influence young people’s motivation, attitudes and eating behaviors.

The cast of the show will include Chef Eric Paul, a crew of phenomenal youth between the ages of 9 and 17, special celebrity guests and subject matter experts. A typical episode would entail taking a field trip to an organic farm, cooking a nutritious meal as a group, discussing fitness tips with a famous athlete and exercising for 10 minutes to hip music provided by a young DJ.

The Healthologist has entered to Pepsi Refresh Project to compete for a $250,000 cash prize. The contest period runs from January 3, 2011 to January 31, 2011. To view the trailer of the show or vote for the Healthologist, please visit http://www. refresheverything. com/healthologist.
