In honor of the nearly 25 million men and women who have served in the armed forces and protected our country's freedom, The American College announced today the creation of a new scholarship fund offering approximately half-a-million dollars in financial aid. This fund is open to any honorably discharged veteran who has served in the U. S. armed forces including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and National Guard.
"Providing military service to our country sometimes requires the heroic men and women of our armed forces to put their own personal career aspirations on hold. As the nation's leading educator of financial service professionals, we want to do our part. This scholarship will provide veterans pursuing a career in financial services with the additional financial support they need to achieve their dreams," stated Larry Barton, Ph. D., President and CEO of The American College.
Veterans are eligible to receive scholarships that could pay their entire tuition, depending on financial need. Half scholarships, subject to a demonstration of financial need, are also available. Members of the armed forces must have been honorably discharged from their branch of service to quality for this financial award. Scholarships are available to both past and more recent veterans.
Once awarded, the scholarship can be applied to any of the designation or degree programs available at The American College. This will help reduce the individual's tuition expenses for as long as he or she remains active in the program.
As one of the nation's leading institutions of higher learning offering education on a distance education basis, The American College provides veterans and other members of the military with the quality programs and flexibility they need to balance service to the armed forces and personal family obligations.
This is not the first initiative The American College has undertaken to help members of the armed forces and their families. In 2007 at the request of the Secretary of Defense, MHN Government Services and The American College worked together to provide financial advisors to military service members preparing for deployments and/or their families. The project known as Operation Financial Counsel, worked to assist members of the military and their families with personal financial readiness, money management and financial counseling.
