M&A Technology introduces the Companion PC, a "netbook" based on the Intel-powered classmate PC platform. This low cost, fully functional notebook is designed for students ages 5-14. A new class of notebooks that is ruggedized and comes with water resistant keyboard offers more shock resistance than a standard notebook. The longer battery life and the ease of use make this device a perfect fit for students.

The Companion PC is based on the Intel® Celeron® M processor and 801.11b/g Wi-Fi. It includes a 9" LCD screen, 4-cell Li-ion battery, 512 MB memory, 30GB hard drive for storage, a built-in webcam and weighs less than 3Ibs. It runs Microsoft Windows operating system. When loaded with educational software, this device helps primary students learn and develop with technology. Teachers utilize this device to create a fun learning environment for students that keeps them connected with technology. A full description of the product is available at www. macomp. com/companionpc (http://www. macomp. com/companionpc).

"With its ruggedness and youth-friendly design the Intel-powered classmate PC is a good "companion" for students in their learning journey. We are excited to work with M&A in bringing the Companion PC to American students," said Lila Ibrahim, general manager of Intel's Emerging Market Platforms Group which developed the reference design.

Donna Shepard, Sr. VP of Education at M&A describes the product as "needed technology in an environment where 1-to-1 computing is becoming a reality. This revolutionary device makes computing in the K-12 market more affordable and durable than the standard devices currently available for students. The Companion PC provides a unique opportunity for students to stay connected with the school by allowing them to take home what they learn in school. This will help bridge the technology divide that exists today between students with different socio-economic backgrounds. This continuous learning process between school and home will help students and teachers achieve better results and stay connected at all times."

The Companion PC will change the way students learn and interact with technology. The fact that students can use the Companion PC at home and school provides a unique opportunity to get familiar with technology and how it can be used to advance the learning process. "Students are spending 27 hours a week online at home and an average of 15 minutes a week at school" Pew Internet & American Life Project.
