With More People Facing Obesity, More Professional Hypnotists Are Offering Tools to Help
Hypnosis offers genuine help for people battling obesity. Many of the professional hypnotists who will attend the National Guild of Hypnotists Convention and Educational Conference this summer will be seeking certifications and re-certifications as they build their skills to help people deal with weight gain and other issues common in society today. NBC's Dateline focused on one man using the hypnosis weight loss techniques of NGH member and board certified hypnotist Tom Nicoli, and found them successful in helping him lose 40 pounds.

Hypnosis, long practiced as an alternative approach to medical treatment, is today accepted by much of the mainstream medical community as a way to treat stress, manage pain and reduce undesirable habits and behaviors such as overeating or lack of motivation to exercise. This summer, many professional hypnotists will participate in The National Guild of Hypnotists (http://www. nghconvention. com/2007/05/02/many-attending-the-national-guild-of-hypnotists-convention-and-educational-conference-this-summer-will-be-earning-required-credits-toward-becoming-a-certified-hypnotist-others-will-earn-advanced-ce) Convention and Educational Conference for the purpose of advancing their skills and gaining new certifications or re-certifications.
Tom Nicoli is one of over 200 speakers who will conduct seminars and workshops at the twentieth annual National Guild of Hypnotists Convention and Educational Conference (http://www. nghconvention. com/2007/05/01/do-you-know-the-2007-convention-catalog-is-available-here-now/), on August 10, 11 and 12. Tom Nicoli, a longtime NGH member, is a board certified hypnotist, certified instructor, public speaker and published author. He is perhaps best known as the founder of World Hypnotism Day and as the hypnotist whose weight loss program was used in an NBC Dateline feature, titled The Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge, that followed six people trying to lose weight in preparation for their twenty-fifth high school reunion. All of the six used using different weight loss approaches, ranging from the Atkins diet to marathon training. Marc Merlis, a pastry chef, who used Tom Nicoli's weight loss (http://www. nghconvention. com/category/convention-presenters/) hypnosis CD's and hypnosis weight loss program, successfully lost 40 pounds during the target period. As Nicoli explains, "The problem isn't what we do, it's why we do it. Hypnosis is the natural, safe and expedient approach of getting to the why."
When Harvard Medical School hypnosis instructor Jean Fain critiqued and rated several weight loss programs for Shape Magazine, only National Guild of Hypnotists member Tom Nicoli's program ranked 5 of 5 stars. Professor Fain described Nicoli's program by saying, "Tom Nicoli has created a dramatic, affordable and effective weight-loss CD set."
None of the members of the National Guild of Hypnotists claims that the techniques of hypnosis will enable you to magically lose weight and the NGH cautions people to avoid anyone who makes such unrealistic claims. NGH president Dr. Dwight Damon says, "The National Guild of Hypnotists offers programs to prepare consulting hypnotists to better serve the types of problems people face today. The 280 workshops and seminars offered at this year's NGH Convention and Educational Conference cover a range of topics related to hypnotism and the medical and counseling professions that use hypnosis in their practice.
The NGH Convention is open to hypnotism professionals (http://www. nghconvention. com/category/first-the-ngh-many-firsts/) and anyone with a sincere interest in learning more about hypnosis or careers in hypnotism and related fields that utilize hypnotism.
