Finally Software Announces First University to Take Up Free PKI Offer

BishopÂ’s Stortford, UK, 12th May 2003

Finally Software announced today that the Greek University, the University of Thessaly, is the first University to take up Finally’s “Free PKI” offer. This offer is open to all Universities and provides them with a PKI Certificate Authority and 1,000 Digital Certificates free of charge for 12 months. At the end of the period, the University has the option of converting to a low cost monthly rental.

“We have been surprised at the number of inquiries we have received from Universities, not only in Europe but from the USA and APAC regions”, said Peter Christou, Finally’s President. Several other Universities have confirmed that they too will be installing OnePKI soon, and we will be making further announcements shortly”, he added.

“The CCE department acknowledges and appreciates the support provided by the “Finally Software”, which has a significant impact in the computer security education and training of our students.” said Elias Houstis, Professor and Chair at the University of Thessaly.

Products:

The Finally Software range of solutions includes Verifiable Intent, an authentication system that monitors sensitive data, such as the security administration system files. If changes are made to the data, the security administrator is alerted and asked to accept the changes through a separate smartcard and pin number authentication system, safeguarding companies from virus outbreaks, hacks and internal security breaches.

The company also offers OneNet a comprehensive portfolio of PKI-based security products including a full PKI, smartcard administration and user support, secure web, email and Java distributed applications, a file security system and secure payment system.

OnePKI™ is a global public–key infrastructure which provides registration and certification functions in local environments and also in a global and open network: creation, issuing, distribution, verification, and revocation of certificates and CRLs. It supports multiple secure network applications from the OneNet™ range: secure Web, secure E–mail, and secure proprietary applications as well as any certificate enabled applications such as the popular web browser and web servers.

OneCard™ is a system supporting transparently multiple types of smart cards, including secret-key cryptography, public-key cryptography, file system cards, and Java smart cards. The system supports multiple secure applications and may be combined with multiple PKIs.

OneNet™/E-mail is a security system which provides strong, end-to-end protection of E-mail letters and communication messages for E-mail systems.

OneNet™/Web is a security system which provides strong, end-to-end protection of HTML documents, WWW forms and communication messages for WWW.

OneNet™/File offers users the ability to protect files on file systems with strong encryption. Users are identified using the digital certificates from OnePKI. Files can be made private for an individual or for a group of users who use their private keys to view the protected files. They can also see the signature of the user who initially encrypted the file.

OneNet/Java is a comprehensive security system for Java environments and applications. It provides security objects and methods for cryptography, hashing, Java smart cards, certificates, key management, and various documents-based (encapsulation) security protocols. OneNet/Java has significant advantages over similar products by being a complete, integrated and easy-to-use Java security system yet maintaining the high security provided by PKI integration

OnePay™ is a system providing security for multiple payment systems: credit card and debit cards payments, payments by invoices, payments using stored money smart cards, and payments based on subscriptions.

In addition, the OneNet range provides authentication, authorisation and security administration for users and servers. The applications use the services of the OnePKI™ Local Registration Authority - RA, based on local data base or LDAP/X.500 directory and the Local Certification Authority - CA, based on X.509 certification standards. There are no equivalent products on the market. All existing products are either based on a simple SSL protocol, protecting only web transactions between browsers and web servers, or proprietary, non-interoperable solutions
