Upcoming WPL Webinar to Focus on Mechanic’s Liens in Construction Projects

WPL Publishing's interactive webinar is ideal for construction managers, public or private owners, contractors, subcontractors, architects, and engineers.

Washington, DC (Vocus) August 10, 2010

Next week, WPL Publishing will hold a webinar to help architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals in the construction industry understand the importance of mechanic’s liens.

The 90-minute webinar, which will feature NCS Inc. Education Services Manager Jerry Bailey, is based on a similar event that the Construction Financial Management Association sponsored. The WPL webinar, entitled “Mechanic’s Liens -- A 360 Degree View,” is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at 1:00 EDT. To register, visit http://tinyurl. com/272oj7d (http://tinyurl. com/272oj7d).

Mechanic’s liens can be critical in securing payment from a property owner to a contractor once the project is completed and can affect every member of a building team. By understanding the protections brought about by the mechanic’s lien statutes, webinar attendees will be equipped to minimize the risk associated with construction credit.

The webinar will examine the following topics:
Mechanic's liens.

The unique nature of construction credit.

Eligible lien claimants.

The steps involved in the mechanic’s lien process.

Protections available for private construction.

Protections available for public construction.

Bond claims.

Public improvement liens and stop notices.

Bonding around liens.

Federal construction and the Miller Act.

Bailey has worked for NCS for 14 years, where he has had extensive hands-on experience in the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filing and mechanic’s lien process. Before coming to NCS, Jerry served as a corporate credit manager in the manufacturing industry for 10 years. He consults with companies daily and has spoken to groups across the United States about Article Nine of the UCC, the Revised Article Nine Model Act, the nuances of construction credit, and the benefits of selling through secured transactions. His presentations cover the legal protections brought about by a mechanic’s lien and UCC filing processes as well as practical solutions of how and when to use these tools.

Following the presentation, there will be an interactive 10-to-15 minute question-and-answer session addressing relevant topics.

Webinar tuition is based on location, not number of participants, so each registration site can have multiple participants for one low price. To register, visit http://tinyurl. com/272oj7d (http://tinyurl. com/272oj7d).
