Employers Plan to Hire People with Military Experience
Military veterans will meet with dozens of top employers, including IBM, Lockheed Martin, 3M, Raytheon, Amazon, Transportation Security Administration, and many other companies and government agencies at the MOAA / Corporate Gray Career Fair on September 29.

Hundreds of job seekers with military experience will attend a military-friendly career fair to meet with representatives from approximately 100 employers at the Washington DC Convention Center on Wednesday, September 29. The MOAA / Corporate Gray Career Fair is the largest military-focused job fair in Washington, D. C., and it includes employer booths, career-development seminars, and onsite résumé critiques.
Representatives from approximately 100 regional and national employers will look for potential employees who possess virtually every job skill. Businesses and organizations attending include Lockheed Martin, IBM, Raytheon, 3M, Amazon, Target Stores, Transportation Security Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, educational institutions, financial institutions, and many more. "The men and women leaving the Armed Forces have a variety of skills, many of which are directly transferable to the civilian work world," according to Carl Savino, president of Competitive Edge.
These military-friendly job fairs, now in their 10th year at the DC Convention Center, are very effective in provding veterans with jobs. A job seeker at a previous events said, "I got the job of my dreams" after she was hired by one of the participating companies. The job fair is open to active duty, retired and former officers and enlisted personnel, Reserve and National Guard servicemembers, and their spouses.
The event is hosted by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), an organization known for its 58-year-old program to assist officers and warrant officers in their transition from the military to civilian careers, and Competitive Edge, publisher of 'The Military to Civilian Transition Guide', 'From Army Green to Corporate Gray,' and other books. The career fair will be held from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center which is located at 801 Mt. Vernon Place, N. W., at the Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center Metro stop.
Several free, one-hour transition seminars will be held beginning at 8 a. m. A previous attendee indicated "the tips that were offered in pre-conference sessions were terrific." The seminars this year include 'How to Work a Job Fair', 'The Interview: Rules of Engagement-Your Compelling Story', and 'Federal Job Application Preparation'. A seminar on 'Evaluating Employer Benefits' will be held at noon and a seminar on 'Post-9/11 GI Bill' will be held at 3 p. m.
Preregistration is not required, but it is encouraged so that employers have access to resumes before the job fair begins.
