DISHA Project -- Supported by EAST

DISHA Project -- Supported by EAST

Do you take being able bodied for granted? You may be sat there drinking a cup of tea; you reach out, pick up the cup, then bring the cup towards you and put it to your lips, pretty simple isn’t it? Well for someone with cerebral palsy, it is far from simple.

(PRWeb UK) May 7, 2010

Cerebral palsy is often described as ‘an intelligent mind trapped in a disobedient body’. In fact there’s more than just an intelligent mind – there’s a person, who just need’s to be given the opportunity to live a full life and become a useful member of society. DISHA was setup to provide this opportunity to disabled children.(Take out maybe too hard hitting and not just children with cerebral palsy)

DISHA (http://www. dishafoundation. org/home. htm) was started in 1995, with the first centre opening in Rajasthan with 18 students.(Now provides education for 147 children) .The vision of DISHA is to create a society with equal opportunities for all. It aims to do this through providing disabled children with the opportunity to discover and develop their potential through effective education and training and community rehabilitation.

DISHA also works to raise awareness and resolve the three main issues that surround disability; attitude, access and employment. DISHA wants to change the attitude that many have towards disability, they want you to see the person, not the wheelchair, they want more homes and offices to be wheelchair accessible, and they want more opportunities for disabled people in the workplace.

Like all charities, DISHA wouldn’t be able to perform the important work it does without the invaluable donations it receives.

East (http://www. east. co. uk) has been an extremely proud supporter of the DISHA foundation since 2000 – making a significant contribution to the new DISHA special school building in September 2004.

Through their continued support, East hopes to help DISHA touch the lives of more children with special needs who just want the opportunity to live a normal life.
