Shanghai (PRWEB) June 9, 2004

Following a conference on Risk Management and Corporate Governance in Qingdao, the Corporate Governance Program of SJ Grand IBS, began in Shanghai last week. SJ Grand IBS has been working with the Research Center for Professional Managers, a unit under the State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and faculty from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, on this project. The program aims to provide local Chinese and foreign executives with the means to achieve better corporate governance in their Chinese operations.

Dr. Stéphane Grand, principal of SJ Grand IBS, says “We are aware that the Chinese government has highlighted corporate governance as a core element in the modern enterprise system, however, at the conference we understood from members of the State Council, that the government is now ready to force corporate governance on SOEs”. “The risk of major economic collapse if they carry on like this is too great”, he continues, “and for the first time, I think they have made the decision to move on it”.

The Corporate Governance Program will consist of a series of presentations and training sessions for Chinese and foreign executives. A large part of the program is being directed towards Chinese SOEs. SJ Grand IBS is currently conducting research on methods of improving the corporate governance of SOEs, and maximizing the value of state assets purchased by foreign companies. Following a number of events in Shanghai, the program will move on to Beijing and Northern China, returning to Shanghai later in the summer.
