Research Institute for Learning and Development of Lexington, MA is Awarded Boston Scientific Foundation Grant to Augment “Drive to Thrive” Project

In the current era of standardized testing, mandated by the federal “No Child Left Behind” legislation, the Boston Scientific Foundation grant is particularly meaningful, fostering the development of strategies to insure that students, particularly those with learning and attention difficulties, are not left behind.

LEXINGTON, MA (PRWEB) December 4, 2004

The Research Institute for Learning and Development (Research ILD) of Lexington, MA recently received a $9,500 Boston Scientific Foundation grant which will be used to augment the innovative “Drive to Thrive” project in collaboration with the Watertown, MA Public Schools.

“Drive to Thrive: Fostering Persistence, Effort, and Resilience” is a field research initiative designed to identify predictors of life success in students, especially in those with learning and attention difficulties.

Dr. Lynn Meltzer, Research ILD’s Executive Director and Director of Research, notes “The collaborative program currently in place in the Watertown Public Schools helps students develop learning strategies that foster effort, persistence and resilience, processes that are more important predictors of life success than IQ or skill level. The Boston Scientific Foundation grant will enable us to continue our efforts in Watertown, reaching as many students as possible.”

The Research Institute for Learning and Development (Research ILD), located in Lexington, MA, is a not-for-profit educational and research organization. Research ILD develops and disseminates research-based educational strategies to create pathways to success for all learners by conducting cutting-edge research and developing instructional tools that can be used at home and in school.

The Boston Scientific Foundation

Boston Scientific, headquartered in Natick, MA, formalized its charitable giving effort with the establishment of the Boston Scientific Foundation in 2002. As a medical device company dedicated to improving lives through innovation, Boston Scientific created the Foundation to support innovative programs that improve lives in two important areas: health and education.

The Foundation's education-related investments seek to improve educational opportunities and skill development for those at risk of not fulfilling their potential. Initiatives that target a clearly defined community or population, and that have a strong potential to produce measurable long-term improvements in health care and education are given priority.

The Foundation's recent award of a $9,500 grant to Research ILD is an affirmation of Research ILDÂ’s ability to develop and deliver workable educational learning strategies and Boston ScientificsÂ’ commitment to support those efforts.
